According to the Experimental Farm Network, this is the most widely eaten green in Nigeria (Lagos being a city in Nigeria, and that's where the name comes from). It is a Celosia, and makes gorgeous, long lasting flowers that are great as cut flowers, and the bees and pollinators love them. It's a show stopping type of plant, and can essentially become an easy to manage "weed" in your garden or food forest.
The greens are edible COOKED only, preferably boiled with the water discarded to remove the nitrates. I have not yet tried this, but that nitrate rich water should make a great liquid fertilizer! I have left some of the leaves in a bucket of water for a few days, and it smelled strongly of nitrogen compounds very quickly!
